The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Environmental Research (Mistra), IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute and the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) are pleased to invite you to our webinar “How to finance the green recovery and a transition to a low-carbon European economy?”, taking place online on the 27th May from 15:00 – 16:00 CET.
Averting catastrophic climate change requires big and bold actions – actions that cannot wait despite the ongoing health crisis. Notably, even meeting the relatively feeble climate-related targets for 2030 that EU leaders have agreed on will require a shift in priorities for many existing public and private investments, as well as channelling of new funds to alternative technologies and solutions.
Join us for a one-hour webinar to discuss climate-related investments post-COVID-19. Are the investments needed for low-carbon development compatible with the type of spending necessary to recover from the public health crisis, or is there tension between the two goals? What is the role of EU and Member State budgets, financial instruments and measures and how might these, including the new EU taxonomy, be used to mobilise private sources of finance?
The webinar will feature two short presentations by IVL and IEEP experts, followed by a discussion also involving experts from the financial and private sectors. The participants are as follows:
- Milan Elkerbout; Research Fellow in the Energy, Resources and Climate Change Unit at CEPS and visiting Research Fellow at IVL
- Thorfinn Stainforth; Policy Analyst in the Low-carbon, Circular Economy team at IEEP
- Karin Reuterskiöld; Sustainable Business Strategist at Danske Bank
- Markus Hökfelt; Fund Manager at Almi Invest
- Private sector participant – TBC
The webinar will be moderated by Jorge Núñez Ferrer, Senior Research Fellow at CEPS.
